What Is Unboring by Reface?
Unboring by Reface AI is a web based generative AI platform that lets you swap faces in photos and videos, animate still images, restyle footage into different artistic styles, and generate unique AI avatars – all without needing any video editing experience.
Built by the Ukrainian AI company Reface – the same team behind the viral face-swap app that’s racked up over 474,000 reviews on the Apple App Store at a 4.8-star rating – Unboring is the web-based evolution of that experience.
The platform runs on RefaceAI™ technology, which the company has been developing and refining for over five years, testing it on millions of users worldwide.
It works across web browsers on Windows and macOS, as well as via mobile apps on Android and iOS, so whether you’re on your phone or laptop, you’re fully covered

TL;DR
I spent time digging into Unboring by Reface AI from every angle – the features, the pricing quirks, the community feedback, and yes, the privacy small print.
Here’s the short version: It does what it promises, and it does it pretty well for casual use. The face swaps are genuinely impressive on clean, well-lit photos, and the breadth of content in the template library means you’ll rarely run out of material to play with.
What I Liked:
The face swap quality on short clips and popular templates is legitimately good. The one-tap workflow meant I wasn’t having to sit through a learning curve, and the platform’s catalogue of hundreds of pre-made photos and videos gives you a tonne of creative options right out of the box. The before-and-after slider tool is a small, but smart touch that makes checking your results genuinely satisfying.
What I Didn’t Like:
I found the pricing structure took some untangling – the cost scales based on how many faces and frames your video contains, which makes it hard to predict exactly what you’ll spend.
There are also real privacy concerns worth knowing about before you start uploading your face: Reface collects biometric data, and its privacy policy has reportedly shifted toward less restrictive terms over time.
A vocal chunk of users on Trustpilot have flagged billing and cancellation issues too, so going in with eyes open is a must. (Note: These reviews are aimed at the app, rather than the desktop ‘Unboring’ platform.)
Unboring by Reface AI Key Features:
Unboring by Reface AI isn’t a one-trick pony! Here’s what you actually get:
- AI Face Swap (Photo): Upload a portrait and swap faces in seconds. The output includes a before-and-after slider so you can compare the original and the result side by side. Results export as JPEG, ready to share.
- AI Face Swap (Video): Swap one or multiple faces in video clips. Unboring by Reface has a large library of pre-made templates to use, or you can upload your own footage.
- Multiple Face Swap: Got a group photo? You can swap out several faces at once, making it ideal for family shots or team photos where someone always seems to have their eyes closed.
- Photo Animation (Animate): Turn a static image into an animated video clip. Faces can sing, dance, or react – the library is regularly updated with new songs and audio clips.
- Video Restyle: Transform any video into a different visual style. Choose from 13+ styles including modern anime, oil painting, cartoon, cyberpunk, and more – each clip can be up to 60 seconds.
- Image Restyle: Apply the same artistic style transformations to still photos.
- AI Avatar Generator: Create stylised AI portraits of yourself across different art styles – cinematic, fantasy, illustrated, and beyond.
- Old Face Filter: See how you might age. I had great fun with this feature! It’s a bit uncanny, but undeniably fun.
- AI Anime Filter: Turn any portrait into an anime-style character.

Unboring by Reface Pros & Cons:
Unboring gets a lot right, but I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t flag the rough edges too – here’s the honest breakdown:
Pros ✅
- Genuinely Fast Processing: Photo face swaps take seconds; even video swaps are quick compared to manual editing alternatives.
- No Technical Skills Required: The interface is built for everyday users, not editors. If you can click a button, you can use this.
- Massive Content Library: Hundreds of photos and videos to swap into, spanning humour, pop culture, memes, horror, vintage, and more – and it’s regularly updated.
- Cross-Platform: Web, iOS, and Android all covered. Start on your phone, continue on your laptop.
- No Watermarks on Paid Plans: Your exported content is clean and share-ready.
- Before-and-After Slider: I like this feature. It makes a real difference when reviewing your results.
- Priority Processing Queue: Premium plan users don’t sit in the slow lane.
Cons ❌
- No Meaningful Free Tier: Unlike many AI tools, there’s no ongoing free access. You get a handful of free tokens on sign-up, but that’s about it.
- Unpredictable Pricing: The cost per video depends on the number of faces and frames detected, which makes budgeting genuinely tricky.
- Quality Drops on Complex Content: Multi-face scenes, low-light photos, and longer videos produce noticeably weaker results than the marketing demos suggest.
- Privacy Concerns: Reface collects biometric and facial data. Policy terms have reportedly become less restrictive over time, with facial embeddings stored for extended periods.
- Billing Complaints: A pattern of user frustration around unexpected recurring charges and difficulty cancelling subscriptions has been documented on Trustpilot and Google Play.
- Limited Creative Control: If you want fine-grained editing, manual adjustments, or professional compositing, you’ll hit a ceiling fast.
- Video Content Stored for Only 30 Days: Your generated content in the “My Media” section is automatically deleted after a month, so download promptly.

Applications:
Unboring by Reface AI has a surprisingly wide range of real-world uses beyond “just for fun,” though fun is absolutely where it shines brightest:
- Social Media Content Creation: Swap your face into trending memes, movie scenes, and viral templates for shareable TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook content.
- Family Photo Enhancement: Rescue group shots with closed eyes, fix awkward expressions, or create memorable animated family keepsakes that actually make people laugh.
- Meme Making: Put your boss’s face on the Hulk. Put your mate’s face on a famous movie villain. Enough said.
- Marketing and Advertising Creatives: Affiliates and small businesses use Unboring to create personalised video ads and promotional content without needing a full production team.
- Pet Content: Animate your dog or cat into a singing cartoon character. It’s ridiculous , but great fun!
- AI Profile Pictures: Generate stylised AI avatars across different art styles for social media profiles or creative projects.
- Entertainment and Nostalgia: Drop your face into vintage photos, historical settings, or decade-specific aesthetics for a dose of “what if I lived in 1975.”
Unboring by Reface Pricing (March’26):
Unboring by Reface AI (the web platform) runs on a subscription model with two main plans, both available on monthly or annual billing.
Yearly Billing (save up to 50%):
| Yearly | Basic | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly equivalent | $7.58/month | $9.99/month |
| Billed annually | $90.99/year | $119.99/year |
| Saving | Save 20% | Save 30% |
Monthly Billing:
| Monthly | Basic | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $12.99/month | $29.99/month |
| Saving | Save 5% | Save 10% |
What’s included – ‘Basic’ (both billing cycles):
- ✅ Exclusive content
- ✅ No ads
- ✅ No watermarks
- ✅ Cancel anytime
- ❌ Unlimited photo face swaps (capped at 100/month on monthly; 100/month or 100/year on annual)
- ❌ Priority processing queue
- ❌ Premium support
- ❌ Video Restyle
What’s included — ‘Premium‘ (both billing cycles):
- ✅ Video Restyle
- ✅ Exclusive content
- ✅ No ads
- ✅ No watermarks
- ✅ Cancel anytime
- ✅ Unlimited photo face swaps
- ✅ Priority processing queue
- ✅ Premium support
My Recommendation:
If you’re dipping your toes in and mainly want to swap faces into photos, create memes, or animate a selfie for social media, the annual Basic plan at $7.58/month is the best option. You get the core experience without paying for features you’re unlikely to need on a casual basis.
If you’re a content creator, run social media accounts regularly, or want access to Video Restyle, unlimited swaps, and priority processing, the annual Premium plan at $9.99/month is where I’d point you. For less than $10 a month you’re getting the full toolkit, and the quality on video content alone justifies the step up.
What I’d strongly advise against is the monthly billing route, especially for Premium. $29.99/month sounds manageable until you realise that’s nearly $360 a year for something you can get for $119.99 on an annual plan. That’s a $240 difference for the exact same product. Commit to the year, save the money, and put it toward something more useful.

Customer Support:
Support for Unboring by Reface is available, but it’s worth setting realistic expectations, especially given some of the billing-related feedback from users:
- Email Support: Unboring by Reface has a dedicated email where you can raise billing queries, report bugs, or request cancellations.
- In-app Support Chat: The mobile app uses an Intercom-based chat system where you can raise issues, request refunds, or flag subscription problems directly.
- Response Times: During busy periods, real-time chat may not be available. Users are typically asked to leave their email for a follow-up, with responses usually arriving within a day or two.
- Response Quality: Mixed. Many users report helpful resolutions when they reach the right person, but a meaningful portion of Trustpilot reviewers specifically called out difficulty with subscription cancellations and unexpected recurring charges.
Note: If you subscribe via the mobile app, always manage and cancel your subscription through your device’s native subscription manager (App Store or Google Play settings), not just by deleting the app. This is the safest way to avoid unintended renewals.
